NEW DELHI: Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins became the second most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League. The World Cup 2023 winning captain was sold for Rs 20.50 crore to SunRisers Hyderabad after an intense bidding war between Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Hyderabad team.
Cummins was the first ever player to breach the Rs 20 crore mark to become the most expensive player in the history of IPL.
SRH were looking for a player with leadership quality in the bowling department that had been left wanting in the last two seasons. Cummins guided Australia to title wins in the World Test Championship 2023 and then the ODI World Cup in November. The bowler had put in a fantastic show in the ODI WC Final in Ahmedabad and had picked up the wickets of Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli that derailed the Indian innings.
