NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged scientific communities to develop technologies not only for India but for the world as the country moves towards Vision 2047 with an aim of being a global leader.

Addressing the country’s top scientists while chairing a meeting of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Society on October 15, the PM also called upon industry and research organisations to work seamlessly with greater integration and focus on addressing India’s energy needs through renewable approach, fostering a circular economy and developing economically viable solutions towards sustainable development. The CSIR Society meets annually to review the CSIR’s activities and deliberate on its future programmes. PM Modi is the President of the society. Emphasising that an integrated approach of scientific, commercial and social components must be pursued for technology to reach the common man, the PM asked the leaders of the scientific community to adopt a ‘one person, one lab’ approach to help boost R&D through a focused manner.

The ‘one person, one lab’ approach is basically aimed at adopting labs by top scientists (one lab by one CSIR society member) to mentor researchers and guide them towards bringing out solutions of various day-to-day problems being faced by common man, civic agencies and different wings of the governments. As the meeting marked the completion of 80 years of the country’s premier public sector R&D body, PM Modi urged the institution to develop a vision for 2042 when it turns 100 years old. He suggested that a virtual summit of all labs can be held regularly in which they can learn new things from each other’s experience.
