Lord Rami Ranger, member of the House of Lords and prominent British-Indian businessman, has voiced strong criticism of US President Donald Trump’s recent decision to impose higher tariffs on Indian goods.

He described the US move as “short-sighted” said that it could severely damage the mutual goodwill shared between the world’s two largest democracies. Praising the Indian diaspora in the United States as vital contributors to the America’s growth and innovation, he said, “Indians don’t just study and leave – they stay, work hard, and lead many of the world’s top companies.”

He also warned that the tariffs could backfire economically within the U.S, triggering inflation, product shortages, and reduced competitiveness in the global market. Lord Ranger urged India to stay true to its civilisational values and focus on ‘Make in India’ self-reliance. He recommended three solutions: protect sovereignty by resisting external pressure, build domestic manufacturing capabilities, and maintain peaceful, strategic dialogue with the US.

Praising the Indian diaspora in the United States as vital contributors to the America’s growth and innovation, he said, “Indians don’t just study and leave – they stay, work hard, and lead many of the world’s top companies.”

Calling for maturity and respect, Lord Rami Ranger appealed to Trump to reconsider such policies. “We admire you, but let’s treat each other as equals, ”he added.
