MUMBAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the 3rd edition of the Global Maritime India Summit of littoral nations on October 17. He also unveiled a blueprint for the Indian maritime blue economy.
Addressing the summit, PM Modi listed the systematic steps undertaken to strengthen the sector in the last few years and said that history bears testimony that India’s maritime capabilities have always benefited the world.
To be held from October 17 to 19 in Mumbai, this is biggest maritime event of the region and is being organised by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
The summit will see participation of defence ministers from 12 countries which include Armenia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Comoros, Iran, Italy, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Spain, and Nepal. In addition, 16 state ministers and Lieutenant Governors from 11 Indian states and Union Territories will be present. The meet will focus on key areas of the maritime sector with sessions and discussions around ports of the future; decarburization; coastal shipping; shipbuilding innovation & technology maritime safety and security; and maritime tourism, among others.
