NEW DELHI: The sudden increase in deaths of adults between 18 and 45 years of age in India were not due to the anti-Covid vaccine but related to post-pandemic hospitalisation, family history of sudden deaths and certain lifestyle behaviours, according to a study conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
“These deaths raised concerns that these cases might be related to Covid-19 infection, or Covid vaccination. The study was conducted to investigate the contributing factors,” the apex body in India for formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research said in a statement.
According to reports, 729 cases and 2,916 others (the control group) were included in the study.
Cases included in the study were healthy individuals aged 18to 45 years without any co-morbidities, but suddenly died of unexplained causes between October 1, 2021 and March 31, 2023.
Interviews were conducted to obtain data on the vaccination, infection, and post-Covid conditions, family history of sudden death, smoking, drug use, alcohol consumption, and vigorous physical activities two days before death.
It was found that many of these causes “were positively associated with unexplained sudden death”, according to the study.
