NEW DELHI: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued a notification modifying the Aadhaar (enrolment and update) rules. Separate forms for Aadhaar enrolment/update have been provided to resident and non-resident individuals (NRIs), according to the UIDAI circular dated January 16, 2024.
An NRI (whether minor or adult) with a valid Indian Passport can apply for Aadhaar from any Aadhaar Kendra.
As per the latest UIDAI circular, for an NRI child, valid Indian passport is the only acceptable POI and POA. For resident Indian and non-resident Indian (NRI) born on and after 1.10.2023, birth certificate is mandatory.
The revised Form 1 will be used for Aadhaar enrollment by both residents and non-residents (with proof of address in India) aged 18 and up. Individuals in the same category can use the same form to update their Aadhaar data.
NRIs must furnish an email address in Aadhaar. According to the Form 1 standards, no SMS/text messages would be transmitted to a non-Indian cellphone number provided by an NRI. A valid Indian passport is the sole accepted Proof of Identity (POI) for an NRI.Form 2 will be used to enroll and update NRIs with address proof outside of India.
