MUMBAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Rajkot Fort in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district on December 4. He paid homage to the rich maritime heritage of the great ruler who constructed several coastal and sea forts, including the Sindhudurg Fort.
The PM also attended Navy Day 2023 celebrations at Sindhudurg and witnessed ‘Operational Demonstrations’ by Indian Navy’s ships, submarines, aircraft and special forces from Tarkarli beach. He also inspected the guard of honour.
“I am fortunate to extend Navy Day greetings from Sindhudurg Fort,” said the PM in his address, “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj knew the importance of the power of the sea. His slogan meant, ‘the one who can control the sea is the most powerful’.”
He conveyed his best wishes on the occasion of Navy Day and paid obeisance to the bravehearts who laid down their lives for the country. The Prime Minister said that inspired by the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the India of today is moving forward abandoning the slavery mentality.
Recalling his unveiling of the naval ensign last year, he expressed happiness that the epaulettes donned by officers will now highlight the heritage and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Inspired by the great Maratha ruler, who had the foresight to build a strong navy to secure the maritime borders, the ensign makes every Indian feel proud of our rich and glorious culture.
