President Droupadi Murmu presented three Padma Vibhushan, eight Padma Bhushan and 55 Padma Shri awards for the year 2024 at a civil investiture ceremony, in Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan on April 22.
The President conferred Padma Vibhushan on former Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu in the field of Public Affairs while Bharatnatyam dancer Padma Subrahmanyam was honoured in the field of Art and Bindeshwar Pathak (posthumously) in the field of Social Work.
She also conferred Padma Bhushan on actor Mithun Chakraborty for his dynamic performances and powerful portrayals in Bengali and Hindi cinema. Besides, famous singer Usha Uthup, Dr. Chandreshwar Prasad Thakur, veteran Marathi film director Dattatray Ambadas Mayaloo, and former Union minister Ram Naik were among those conferred with Padma Bhushan. Among the 55 Padma Shri awardees was tennis player Rohan Bopanna.
Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were among those present on the occasion.
Padma awards, one of the highest civilian awards of the country, are conferred in three categories – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
