NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged countrymen to promote the “Vocal for Local” campaign and buy indigenous products in order to achieve the dream of Aatmnirbhar Bharat, or a self-sufficient India.
Addressing his 106th Episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on October 29, PM Modi called upon people to source locally made items while shopping for Diwali in order to light up the lives of the sellers. He expressed happiness that Khadi witnessed record sales in Delhi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
“The rise in the sale of Khadi means its benefit reaches myriad sections across cities and villages. Benefiting from these sales are our weavers, handicraft artisans, our farmers, cottage industries engaged in growing Ayurvedic plants, everyone is getting the benefit of this sale… and, this is the strength of the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign…,” PM Modi said.
He reiterated his request that whenever anyone travels for tourism or pilgrimage, one should buy products made by the local artisans there.
He reminded, “Today India is becoming the world’s biggest manufacturing hub. Many big brands are manufacturing their products here. If we adopt those products, then Make in India gets a fillip and this too is being ‘Vocal For Local’.”
The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which has been going on for the last two and a half years across the country, will conclude on October 31. On this day, the celebrates the birth anniversary of Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. PM Modi said Indians remember his incomparable role in integrating more than 580 princely States of the country.
PM Modi informed that the foundation of a nationwide organisation – Mera Yuva Bharat – is being laid on the occasion. The organisation will provide an opportunity to the youth to play an active role in various nationbuilding events. The Prime Minister also paid tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi whose death anniversary is on October 31.
Touching upon the subject of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, Mr Modi shared two inspiring endeavours related to the heritage of Tamil Nadu.
