NEW DELHI: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is the most favoured destination for skilled workers going abroad in search of jobs. As per data released by the Government, after Saudi Arabia, other two gulf countries Qatar and UAE stand second and third in employing Indian skilled workers.
In a reply to a question in Parliament, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that Saudi Arabia emerged as the top destination for skilled Indian workers between April 2022 and December 2023.
The Minister also shared that 13,944 Indians trained at Skill India International Centres (SIIC) secured jobs in the Saudi Kingdom.
India aims to become a global skill hub, with 30 SIIC planned to enhance the training of its workforce to meet international standards, he said.
The Minister added that a total of 25,300 candidates got employment abroad during the period. After Saudi Arabia, Qatar came second with 3,646 skilled Indians employed while UAE employed a total of 2,832 Indians. The UK and Japan stood at the fourth and fifth positions with 1,248 and 1,196 skilled Indians employed, respectively.
SIIC provide top-notch training to youth, catering to the demand of international employers mainly in UAE, Canada, Australia, and other GCC countries.
The centres have a robust network of partnering organisations and overseas recruiters to facilitate the supply of skilled and certified workforce globally from India. The Government managed network has also helped replace to a large extent private illegal agents in recruitment of skilled workers worldwide from India.
SIIC partnering organisations collaborate with National Skill Development Corporation of India to aggregate overseas market demand, offering services like mobilisation, counselling, skill training, pre-departure orientation, foreign language training, placement, and immigration support. There are two SIICs in Varanasi and Bhubaneswar at present.
