NEW DELHI: At a high-profile ceremony at the historic Ramlila Maidan – with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Cabinet ministers, and chief ministers from various states in attendance – BJP’s first-time MLA Rekha Gupta was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi, on February 20. She is the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi and the sole woman Chief Minister among all 18 NDAruled states.
Rekha Gupta had secured victory in the Shalimar Bagh Assembly Constituency, defeating AAP’s Bandana Kumari by a margin of 29,595 votes in the results announced on February 8. Along with her, Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra and Pankaj Kumar Singh, too, took oath as ministers.
After taking charge, Chief Minister Gupta told reporters that her Government would not waste a single day in realising the “mission” of a Viksit Delhi. “We will fulfil all the commitments made to the people of Delhi,” she said.
