It was a clean sweep for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the in the central states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh where the party got 39 seats out of a total of 40 seats. While in Madhya Pradesh, the safron party got all the 29 seats, it got 10 out of 11 seats in Chhattisgarh. In the 2019 election the party had got 28 seats in Madhya Pradesh and 9 seats in Chhattisgarh.
For Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the BJP’s victory comes as a morale booster. The BJP also breached the bastion of former chief minister Kamal Nath in Chhindwara which was the only seat won by the Congress in 2019. Vivek Sahu of the BJP defeated Nakul Nath, son of Kamal Nath this time. Other top Congress leader who lost was Digvijaya Singh. This was his second consecutive defeat. In the family seat of Guna, Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia made a comeback. He had lost the seat in 2019.
Chhattigarh has never let the party down in the parliamentary elections. This is the straight ffth victory for the party in the state. The Congress managed to win the lone seat of Korba where the incumbent MP Jyotsna Mahant, wife of state leader of opposition Charan Das Mahant won. Former Congress CM Bhupesh Baghel too had to bite the dust.
