Team Blitz India
NEW DELHI: India is set to become the world’s most populous country by the middle of this year, surpassing China’s 1.425 billion people by about 3 million, according to the State of the World Population Report 2023 of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
This means greater pressure on national resources, but population itself is a resource if the bulk of it is young and in the working age group (15-64 years). Population experts call it ‘demographic dividend’ and India enjoys this advantage the best compared to any other country in the world. .
With 68 per cent of the working age population in 2023, India continues to have a demographic window of opportunity to reap an economic dividend for the next 35 years Prime Minister Narendra Modi had referred to this soon after assuming office in 2014, when he said: “Let us recognise our demographic dividend. Our nation is young. The world needs skilled manpower.”
