THE world came together on June 21 to celebrate the 11th International Yoga Day (IYD). In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the celebrations from the front by participating in an event along the scenic coastline of Vishakhapatnam. More than 11,000 naval personnel and their family members from the Eastern Naval Command participated in the grand morning yoga session with the PM.
Indian Navy personnel also performed the yoga on board an INS ship off the Visakhapatnam coast in Andhra Pradesh. Addressing the world ahead of the IYD, PM Modi urged global citizens to embrace yoga as a timeless bridge between body, mind, and nations. In his address, PM Modi said yoga offers a direction of peace as the world witnesses unrest, tension and instability today.
President Droupadi Murmu participated in a mass yoga session at the Uttarakhand state police line maidan, in Dehradun. The theme of this year’s IYD was ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’. Bollywood veteran Anupam Kher joined the yoga celebrations at the iconic Times Square in New York City along with thousands. People also took part in Yoga Day celebrations in London, organised by the High Commission of India.
