MUMBAI: For comprehensive data analysis and to make studied decisions on various sectors, the Government of Maharashtra is planning to set up an institution on the lines of Niti Aayog.
A delegation led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde recently met Niti Aayog CEO Parameswaran Iyer and other officials of the Aayog in this regard. The topics discussed during the meeting ranged from monetisation of assets, blockchain in agriculture and transportation to alternative fuel or EV policy, non-conventional energy, drone in healthcare and agriculture etc.
The Niti Aayog has carried an extensive study on these issues and developed a tool, where inter-related data from various departments is collectively analysed for a better decision-making process. For instance, one department has details of an outbreak of disease, while another one possesses information about the location of contaminated water. If these two departments share their data, the decision-making would be more effective.
Maharashtra is aiming to become a trillion-dollar economy and the state Government has formulated a fivepoint agenda that it launched while presenting the state Budget for 2022- 23 in March. The trillion-dollar economy proposal was also discussed with the Niti Aayog so that the state Government could achieve its goal within time.
The Niti Aayog serves as the apex public policy think=tank of the Central Government and the nodal agency is tasked with catalysing economic development, and fostering cooperative federalism through the involvement of state governments in the economic policy-making process.
The BJP Government came out of the five-year plan system and established Niti Aayog in 2015 for catalysing economic development through better policymaking. The Aayog is the apex public policy think-tank of the Central Government which is responsible for providing ideas and key areas to be focused through policymaking. It is also responsible for fostering cooperative federalism through the involvement of state governments in economic policy-making.
