THE United Arab Emirates has launched Falcon Foundation alongside the global scientific research group, Technology Innovation Institute (TII), to support open- source AI development.
The Falcon Foundation will be a non-profit organisation and TII has already pledged $300m towards the foundation.
The Foundation was announced during the 2024 World Governments Summit in Dubai. The Falcon Foundation has also stated that it will remain committed to creating ethical AI practices and promoting proper regulation of the technology.
The Advanced Technology Research Council’s (ATRC) Secretary General, Faisal Al Bannai, emphasised the crucial role of initiatives like the Falcon Foundation in shaping the trajectory of AI development towards greater transparency and accessibility, particularly in a rapidly evolving AI landscape.
“In a world where AI continues to advance at an unprecedented pace, initiatives like the Falcon Foundation play a crucial role in steering the trajectory of AI development towards greater transparency and accessibility,” Al Bannai said.
CEO of TII, Ray O Johnson, reiterated the commitment to fostering transparency and collaboration in AI development, extending the UAE’s collaborative ethos to set new standards for openness. He called upon entities worldwide to join this endeavour, aligning with the Foundation’s mission to advance opensource AI for the benefit of all.
“We’re committed to fostering transparency and collaboration in AI. Extending the UAE’s collaborative spirit into AI development, we set new standards for openness and we encourage all other entities who support open source from around the world to join us,” Johnson said.
