DUBAI: Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum engaged with senior officials and decision-makers from global agencies influential in space programmes.
The meeting took place during the Space Agencies Leaders’ Summit, during COP28 being hosted in the UAE. First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was also present in the meeting. He underscored the UAE’s clean energy and space projects and noted how they promote the country’s dedication to innovation.
Increased data-sharing The Space Agencies Leaders’ Summit, orchestrated by the UAE Space Agency, comprised representatives from over 20 international space agencies.
Discussions centred on ways to enhance data-sharing among space nations, allocate resources for climate research initiatives within the space sector, support climate monitoring programmes, and promote sustainable space operations to minimise environmental impact.
The summit concluded with a Space Sector Pledge for Enhancing Space-Based Climate Initiatives, aimed at accelerating climate action through financing and reinforcing climate research to meet commitments outlined in the 2015 Paris Agreement.
Galaxy of leaders The UAE Space Agency took the opportunity to showcase its pioneering role and commitment to sustainability by organising the Space Pavilion under the theme ‘Space for Sustainability.’
