NEW DELHI: PRIME Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni had a telephone conversation on September 10, where both the leaders reviewed the progress of the strategic partnership between India and Italy.
The two leaders described cooperation in areas like investment, defence, security, space, science and technology, education, public relations as positive. They resolved to further strengthen this partnership under the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29.
During the talks, the two leaders also discussed regional and global issues. They agreed on the need to find an early and peaceful solution to the Ukraine conflict. PM Modi assured all possible support from India in this direction.
Meloni reiterated Italy’s strong support for the early conclusion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement. She also expressed support for the success of the AI Impact Summit to be hosted by India in 2026. In addition, the two leaders agreed to take steps to promote connectivity under the India Middle East Economic Corridor. PM Modi said in a social media post that he was thankful for Italy’s proactive support for concluding a mutually beneficial India-EU trade agreement and promoting connectivity through the IMEEEC initiative.
At the end of the talks, both leaders reiterated their commitment to maintain mutual dialogue and take the relationship to new heights.
