LONDON: Staff working on the London underground, including drivers, are planning to strike next month over pay and working conditions, the ASLEF trade union said on October 16.
Walkouts are planned between November 1 and November 16, said ASLEF, the train drivers’ union.
“ASLEF members have been extremely patient as talks have dragged on – with no real progress – for months on end,” said Finn Brennan, ASLEF’s fulltime organiser on London Underground. Transport for London (TfL), which operates London Underground and bus networks with millions of journeys each day, said the announcement of the strike was disappointing following recent discussions over pay, terms and conditions. TfL said it had increased its offer since talks began and has invited unions to meet again next week.
The Aslef strike will coincide with planned stoppage by London Underground (LU) workers belonging to the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT), including signalling and station staff, on various days between November 1 and 8, after they rejected a “wholly inadequate” pay offer.
