Acomparison of life in the USA and India has set the internet buzzing after a social media post by an Indian woman who claims to be a “writer with over 3 million views/ month”.
Niharikaa Kaur Sodhi, whose profile on one of her handles says that she is from Gurugram, near New Delhi, posted on ‘X’ on July 6, “Day 11 today in the US 🇺🇸 and here’s a thought I had yesterday evening. It might trigger some of you…” Then she added: “But if online text with somebody’s opinion triggers you that’s a space you should totally work on and protect for your own energy 🤓”
The trigger
And her post did trigger some reactions. But before that – what was the “trigger”?
Sodhi shared that she thought life in India was “luxurious” with quick food deliveries, 10 min grocery delivery, affordable household help. But, she continued, real quality of life is about availability of clean air, electricity and water services, greenery, and good roads. In her words, real luxury is central air conditioning in sweltering heat – with uninterrupted power supply and the freedom to wear “what you want to be comfortable instead of men ogling at you”.
What she called “a thought in my head” drew a diverse response including a post that said “Both places have their plus and minus. You usually cannot have everything in one place”. Sodhi agreed to this statement.
‘Weird concept’
Another asked her to study “why India is most populous country throughout ( if we take density into consideration we are 3 times more populous than china ) . Ppl have very weird concept on quality of life ! Hopefully you will learn !”
Then there were others who agreed with her observations. Interestingly, Sodhi answered most of the reactions on her post, some in a tonguein-cheek manner.
