The Indian consulate in New York on March 7 hosted an event to mark the Chalo India global diaspora campaign, which was attended by Consul General Binaya Pradhan.
Speaking on the occasion, he encouraged members of the Indian diaspora to act as Incredible India’s ambassadors and inspire their US friends and families to visit and explore India’s diversity and beauty.
The initiative followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for members of the diaspora to encourage at least five nonIndian friends to visit India as tourists. He also urged nonresident Indians to visit India themselves and contribute to establishing the country as a premier tourist destination “With more than 3 crore (30 million) overseas Indians, the Indian diaspora can serve as a powerful catalyst for Indian tourism, acting as cultural Ambassador,” an official statement from the PMO noted.
PM Modi recently launched the campaign in the spirit of Jan Bhagidari for an Atulya and Viksit Bharat. The campaign was simultaneously initiated in all Indian embassies and High Commissions worldwide.
