EXTERNAL Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held “productive and deep” conversations with his United Arab Emirates counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on India and UAE’s “ever-growing” comprehensive strategic ties and discussed regional and global issues. Jaishankar arrived in Abu Dhabi on June 23 to hold wide-ranging talks. Before the meeting with Al Nahyan Jaishankar visited the iconic BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, where the two leaders are expected to deliberate on the overall situation in Gaza besides bilateral relations. “Blessed to visit the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi today. A visible symbol of India-UAE friendship, it radiates a positive message to the world and is a true cultural bridge between our two countries,” Jaishankar posted on X soon after the visit to the temple inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 14 this year.
Jaishankar’s visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will provide an opportunity to review the entire spectrum of comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the UAE as well as regional and global developments.
Sri Lanka thanks India
Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jaishankar for their “continued support” to the isand nation. Wickremesinghe met Jaishankar in Colombo as both jointly inaugurated the formal commissioning of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) under a $6 million grant from India.
He mentioned that both countries are looking at developing the Palk Strait for wind and solar energy which would transform the economy of the northern province, a region worst affected by the long civil war. India, he stated, is also helping Sri Lanka expand the Kankesanthurai Port – a major port on the Jaffna Peninsula. Wickremesinghe and EAM jointly handed over 48 houses under Model Village Housing Project in Colombo and Trincomalee districts; 106 houses under Phase III of the Indian Housing Project in Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya Districts.
