Team Blitz India
NEW DELHI: India is intensifying its endeavours to bolster Oman’s space programme, with a distinct focus on human capacity development and the provision of space-based services, according to sources with knowledge of the matter.
Despite previous emphasis on space hardware and satellite projects, this collaboration is expected to take a different trajectory. Both nations had previously formalised their peaceful cooperation in space through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in 2018.
In August, Oman’s Transport and IT Minister, along with some senior officials, had held talks with the leadership of the Indian Space Research Organisation.
Their discussions resulted in the launch of a GIS portal by ISRO, tailored to meet Oman’s specific needs and encompassing various sectors such as agriculture, urban planning, and disaster management.
“Specific cooperation proposals, including the construction and launching of satellites for the Sultanate of Oman, the establishment of a ground station, and the launch of a sounding rocket in Oman, were also deliberated,” said ISRO in a statement released after the meeting.
