NEW DELHI: The BJP tightened its stranglehold in the Hindi heartland with assembly victories in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh while the Congress ousted BRS from Telangana on December 3.
TheBJP-dominated electoral picture with PM Modi’s imprint writ large. While the saffron party retained Madhya Pradesh with a projected decisive win, it wrested Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh from the Congress.
In MP, Shivraj Singh Chauhan became the longest serving Chief Minister as he steered his party to win. Out of the total of 230 seats in the state, the BJP won 163 while the Congress was second with 66.
In Rajasthan, the BJP won 115 seats out of the 199 in fray, while the ruling Congress could win only 69. Similarly in Chattisgarh, BJP won 54 out of the total 90 seats while Congress could manage 35.
In Telengana, Congress emerged triumphant winning 64 of the 119 seats. The ruling BRS could only win 39 seats,
Clouds of gulal, shouts of Jai Shri Ram, joyful jigs and crackers were the sights and sounds of celebration in BJP offices with party workers and leaders unanimous in attributing the win to Modi’s guarantees.
