LONDON: Sarosh Zaiwalla, founder Zaiwalla & Co., UK, has commended Narendra Modi-led Government in India for honouring former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao with Bharat Ratna.
Rao, he said, was a unique human being in many ways. Recalling his first interaction with the Indian Government under Rao’s leadership, when India decided to sell part of its gold reserve to State Bank of India London and his firm was instructed to assist SBI, he said, “It was a bold, but brave, move, aimed at reducing India’s overseas debt, and it marked the beginning of India’s economic upturn.”
Referring to his company’s success in a London international arbitration for India’s space agency ISRO, he said, “I was not only impressed by his full knowledge of the arbitration but also by his practical and down-to-earth approach.”

Zaiwalla further said, “Rao’s visionary leadership makes him deserving of Bharat Ratna, and the granting of this award to a PM who was from the opposition party just goes to show the integrity and commitment of Modi’s Government to recognise merits over political compatibility.”
He congratulated both Rao and PM Modi “for their contribution which has seen India rise to the fifth-largest economy in the world, and projected to become the third-largest economy in the next two years.”
