Team Blitz India
THE United States and the Republic of Korea have reiterated their commitment towards bolstering collaborative efforts in India, through the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The development work will be spearheaded by their international development agencies, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The partnership will focus on working towards mutual global development objectives.
The MoU delineates a strategic framework wherein USAID and KOICA will synergise their capabilities and expertise to advance key priorities in India. These encompasses women’s economic empowerment, disaster and climate resilience, digital literacy, and avenues for trilateral cooperation with the Government of India. Through targeted initiatives, the collaboration endeavours to augment regional economic trade, foster innovative partnerships, mitigate climate vulnerabilities, and bolster local livelihoods with entrepreneurial and digital tools.
Highlighting the significance of the joint collaboration, US ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, remarked, “The signing of this MOU signifies a pivotal moment for the United States and the Republic of Korea to harness the potential of collaboration. Together, our aim is to engender tangible and substantive benefits to communities across India, crafting models with the potential for global resonance.
This MOU, coupled with India’s ingenuity and expertise, will serve as a catalyst for advancing crucial emerging technologies, enhancing STEM education initiatives, and unlocking opportunities for women entrepreneurs to not only broaden their skill sets but also thrive in the pursuit of their aspirations.”
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India, Chang Jae-bok, echoed this sentiment, stating, “The inking of this Memorandum of Understanding represents a significant milestone for the Republic of Korea, laying the groundwork for joint developmental initiatives with the United States in India. As indispensable partners and allies in the Indo-Pacific region, we are steadfast in leveraging our respective strengths and resources to effect positive transformations in pivotal areas.
These encompass women’s economic empowerment, disaster and climate resilience, and digital literacy. Through our collaborative endeavours, we aspire to contribute to advancing the overarching development agenda in India while solidifying the bonds of cooperation between our nations.”
Notably announced ahead of Women’s History Month, the partners unveiled the inaugural initiative under the MoU: an exchange programme for women entrepreneurs engaged in USAID/India programmes. This initiative will enable participants to partake in specialised training programmes in South Korea, thereby enhancing their business acumen and leadership prowess.
