President Murmu emphsises on better ties with African nations

During her three-nation tour of Africa from October 13-19, India’s President Droupadi Murmu held bilateral meetings, oversaw signing of Memoranda of Understanding and interacted with Indian diaspora.

On the last leg of her trip,President Murmu addressedan India-Malawi Business Meet in Lilongwe, wherein she said that India and Malawi share cordial and friendly bilateral relations. She highlighted that India was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic ties with Malawi after its Independence in 1964.

The President said India and Malawi share a very cordial and strong economic relationship. India is currently the fourth largest trading partner of Malawi and it is also one of the largest investors in Malawi. She emphasised that India and Malawi can come together to find synergy in many areas. Earlier in Nouakchott, India and Mauritania signed and exchanged several MoUsin the presence of President Murmu and her Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed OuldGhazouani.

The agreements are aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two nations across various sectors. Upon her arrival at Algiers in Algeria, the President called for deeper economic cooperation between the two nations. Addressing the IndiaAlgeria Economic Forum, she said, “It is time to further strengthen our partnership and impart new momentum towards a new era of cooperation.”

The eventwas jointly organised by the Algerian Economic Renewal Council and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci), with participation from both countries’ business and Government leaders. In her speech, President Murmu praised the reforms led by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s leadership, acknowledging the positive changes taking place in the country.
