KAMPALA: Madhusudhan Agrawal, Co-Founder and Vice-Chairman of Ajanta Pharma and Honorary Consul of Uganda for the western zone of India in Mumbai, was awarded Uganda’s prestigious diamond jubilee medal. Agrawal is the first Indian to receive the honour which acknowledges his commitment to strengthening diplomatic and health care ties between Uganda and India.
Reflecting on the award, Agrawal said this recognition underscores the real impact we can create through meaningful partnership in health care and beyond. Serving as Uganda’s Honorary Consul for over eight years, Agrawal facilitated the launch of Uganda Airlines first direct flight between Mumbai and Uganda in 2023, enhancing trade and cultural connections. However he feels that his most significant contributions have been in healthcare.
In 2018 Agrawal introduced ‘Hope Express’, a mobile mammography van for the Uganda Cancer Institute, which has provided cancer screening to over 3,00,000 women in rural areas till date. These efforts are ongoing and the initiatives have already saved more than 1,000 lives through early detection. In 2023 he launched SanjeevaniMamta Hospital, a charitable hospital in Mumbai. His contribution to Uganda have been instrumental in enhancing relations with India and improving the lives of our citizens, said a senior Ugandan official. Looking ahead Agrawal said he hopes to showcase Uganda scenic landscape to international filmmakers encouraging them to capture its beauty on the global stage.
