NEW DELHI: FOLLOWING the vandalism of Mahatma Gandhi statue in Tavistock Square, London, the Indian High Commission has demanded an investigation into the matter. The incident occurred on September 29, ahead of the International Day of Non-Violence on October 2nd. The Indian High Commission in Britain expressed outrage and called it a shameful act. Local authorities were informed, following which an investigation was launched.
“The High Commission of India expresses its deep sadness and strongly condemns the shameful vandalism of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Tavistock Square, London. This is not just vandalism, but a violent attack on the idea of non-violence and the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, three days before the International Day of Non-Violence,” the Indian High Commission wrote in a social media post.
