IPL 2026: Virat Kohli Led RCB Shashes Star Power Myth

Saji Chacko

NEW DELHI: When the Indian Premier League 2026 began, many experts predicted a fiercely competitive season. Yet as the tournament progressed, one team consistently stood out for its depth, versatility, and match-winning ability across departments—Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Led by the ever-reliable Virat Kohli, RCB emerged as arguably the most balanced side in IPL 2026.

For years, RCB had often been labeled a team heavily dependent on a few star players. However, the 2026 squad shattered that perception. The batting unit combined experience with explosive power. At the top, Virat Kohli continued to set the tone with his trademark consistency, anchoring innings while allowing aggressive batters around him to play freely. His ability to adapt to different match situations remained one of RCB’s greatest strengths.

What made this RCB side special was the support Kohli received. The middle order featured players capable of accelerating instantly, ensuring that the team never lost momentum even after early wickets. Whether chasing daunting totals or setting competitive targets, RCB possessed the batting depth to tackle any challenge.

The bowling attack was equally impressive. Unlike previous seasons where the team often struggled for balance, IPL 2026 saw RCB field a well-rounded bowling unit. The pace attack delivered breakthroughs with the new ball and executed yorkers effectively in the death overs. Meanwhile, the spin department offered control during the middle overs, often choking opposition scoring rates and forcing mistakes.

Another key factor behind RCB’s success was the presence of impactful all-rounders. Modern T20 cricket demands players who can contribute in multiple facets of the game, and RCB had several such options. These players provided flexibility in team selection and allowed the captain to adapt strategies according to conditions and opposition strengths.

Virat Kohli’s leadership also played a crucial role. While his batting remained world-class, his influence extended beyond personal performances. Kohli fostered a culture of accountability and confidence, encouraging younger players to express themselves on the big stage. His experience and tactical awareness often helped RCB stay calm under pressure.

Fielding, often an overlooked aspect of T20 cricket, was another area where RCB excelled. Sharp catches, athletic boundary saves, and quick ground fielding converted half-chances into match-defining moments.

By the end of IPL 2026, RCB had proven that success is not built on star power alone. With a strong batting lineup, a disciplined bowling attack, versatile all-rounders, exceptional fielding, and the enduring brilliance of Virat Kohli, Royal Challengers Bengaluru showcased what a truly balanced T20 team looks like. Their campaign became a blueprint for how championship-winning squads are built in the modern IPL era.
