Natural farming, conservation of natural resources, and willingness to adopt the Integrated Farming Systems (diversification) were smallholder farmers’ most preferred topics covered in the Mann Ki Baat episodes, according to a recent study.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi began addressing the nation through his “Mann Ki Baat” over All India Radio October 3, 2014. The dialogue reaches a milestone on Sunday, April 30, with 100 episodes.

The PM has also included topics on agricultural to inspire and motivate the farming community and other stakeholders. Such episodes helped to drive innovations and development on oilseeds and pulses, technology transfer from lab to land, climate resilient agriculture, organic farming, integrated farming system approach, conservation of natural resources, beekeeping, millets production and consumption, use of drone, etc.

The study was conducted to assess the influence and learning environment among farmers and other stakeholders created by Mann Ki Baat. It was carried out by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad.
During the study, millet farmers revealed that the message communicated through Mann Ki Baat, and the follow-up by Krishi Vigyan Kendra professionals have strengthened their perceptions. It helped them to adopt improved varieties of the crop and production system. It also created congenial environment for agri-entrepreneurship. Additionally, Mann Ki Baat inspired agri-startups to focus on innovative solutions, benefiting farmers.
