India, Poland aim to double trade by 2030

India and Poland Target Doubling Trade by 2030

NEW DELHI, 23 October: Trade between India and Poland was worth US$6,360 million in 2025. Double it, as the two prime ministers agreed in New Delhi, and the number India has signed up to is roughly US$12.7 billion by 2030.

At a glance

India-Poland trade, 2025: US$6,360 million
Indian exports to Poland, 2025: US$4,830 million
Indian imports from Poland, 2025: US$1,530 million
Target agreed on 22 October 2026: double by 2030

What India gains

A dated trade goal, a defence-industry channel for co-production in India, and a new partner in the India-led disaster-resilience coalition.

Railways ramp up coal haul as power demand rises

NEW DELHI, 23 October: Indian Railways loaded more coal in the first 18 days of October 2026 than in any comparable period, the Ministry of Railways said. In the first half of 2026-27 it ran an average of 430 coal rakes a day to thermal power stations, 7.1% up on the first half of the previous year.

The ministry put the surge down to rising energy use, higher industrial output and weak rainfall in parts of the country. The second half of the picture is in a different document.

At a glance

Rail coal loading, 1-18 October 2026: up 22.5% on a year earlier
Coal at 191 plants, 21 October 2026: 19,779.1 thousand tonnes
Share of normative stock: 32%
Plants below a quarter of the norm: 100

What India gains

Record rail haulage is what keeps power stations running through a high-demand autumn while stocks are rebuilt.

India’s seafood exports cross $8.4 billion

NEW DELHI, 23 October: India exported 19,72,018 tonnes of seafood worth ₹73,890.46 crore — US$8,455.76 million — in 2025-26, the Marine Products Export Development Authority’s statistics show. That is 18.4% more in rupees and 16.1% more in tonnes than the 16,98,170 tonnes worth ₹62,408.45 crore shipped in 2024-25.

For a landlocked State, that is the case being made: fish ponds and reservoirs as a route into a market already worth more than US$8 billion a year.

Panchayats get Rs 1.74 lakh crore for water, sanitation

NEW DELHI, 23 October: Panchayats will have nearly ₹1.74 lakh crore of Finance Commission money set aside for water and sanitation — about 40% of the more than ₹4.35 lakh crore the 16th Finance Commission has allocated to rural local bodies.

The figures were presented at a virtual conference with the States, the fourth in a series that followed the department’s Summit on Water on 1 and 2 September 2026. Its subject was how Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 will draw on those grants. The shift is from building taps to keeping them working: the first phase of the mission laid pipes to village homes; the second leans on panchayats to pay for operation and maintenance.

States get deadline for three greenfield chemical parks

MUMBAI, 23 October 2026: States have until 30 November to bid for three greenfield chemical parks under the BHAVYA Rasayan scheme, the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals’ said. Each park must cover at least eight square kilometres. The Centre will put in up to ₹1,000 crore a park, in five instalments, and the State at least ₹500 crore, for a total of at least ₹4,500 crore from 2026-27 to 2030-31. The Cabinet approved the scheme on 24 July 2026.

Kerala Tourism leaves Rs 301 crore of plan funds unspent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, 23 October 2026 Kerala’s tourism department used ₹755.24 crore of the ₹1,055.92 crore in its plan funds, or 71.52%, and ₹300.68 crore went unspent or was surrendered. This was revealed by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India’s Compliance Audit (Civil) Report.
