What India gains
India gains a warship class it owns from the design table onward, which means future upgrades, spares and refits stay in Indian hands rather than waiting on a foreign licensor. It gains a competitive model for awarding warship work between public yards. And it gains ten years of order visibility for thousands of small suppliers who make up the real depth of a shipbuilding economy.
BLITZ VIEW
The value of a competitively won, Indian-designed order will show in delivery. Publishing a hull-by-hull delivery schedule, and an indigenous-content target for the supplier base, would let the MSMEs counting on that 460 lakh person-days plan their own investment early.
India-EU trade pact heads for December finish line
BRUSSELS, November 7: India and the European Union are clearing the last procedural work on their free trade agreement ahead of a signing planned for mid-December. Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal held talks in Brussels with European Commission officials on customs cooperation, trade facilitation and market access. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to travel to Brussels for the ceremony.
Under the pact, Indian labour-intensive goods such as leather, textiles, and gems and jewellery get duty-free entry; India-EU trade stood at €118 billion last year.
