NEW DELHI: In a telephonic conversation with United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on April 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited his UK counterpart to attend the G20 Summit to be held in September, and the latter reiterated Britain’s full support to India’s ongoing G20 Presidency.

Many important issues including the extradition of economic fugitives who have taken refuge in Britain, and the attack on the Indian High Commission in London came up during the conversation between the two prime ministers. Along with this, PM Modi also raised the issue of security of Indian diplomatic facilities in Britain and demanded strict action against anti-India elements in UK.

Prime Minister Sunak said that the UK considers the attack on the Indian High Commission completely unacceptable and assured that there would be no lapse in the security of Indian diplomatic staff in Britain.

It may be recalled that Khalistan supporters had vandalised the Indian High Commission premises in London recently.

The two leaders reviewed the progress made on a number of bilateral issues, especially those related to trade and economic sector cooperation. The need for an early finalisation of a mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries was also emphasised along with a review of several bilateral projects present in the India-UK Roadmap 2030.
