The Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy has received over 1,100 applications for its App Olympics programme, which was launched last year as part of the ‘Create Apps in Dubai’ initiative.

This initiative aligns with the chamber’s mission to bolster Dubai’s status among the world’s foremost digital hubs while fostering the success of the local digital ecosystem. It also aligns with the emirate’s aspirations outlined in the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) .

The App Olympics, tailored to reinforce Dubai’s prominence in mobile application development, has attracted digital talent keen to submit their innovative ideas. With a closing ceremony slated for February 29 at the Museum of the Future, participants stand to gain expert guidance and vie for prizes aimed at catapulting their businesses forward.

Global interest in the App Olympics is palpable, with applicants hailing from 64 countries, comprising 31% of total submissions. Notably, education-focused apps dominate the entry pool, closely followed by submissions in healthcare, sustainability, and logistics. Other sectors represented include financial services, tourism, travel, and food and beverage.

Following a rigorous vetting process, 247 participants were chosen to compete in the qualifying stages, spanning a six-month period. Participants underwent extensive training, attending 90 courses covering mobile application development and strategies to refine their ideas into viable business models.

The programme’s initial phase culminated in January, with qualifying ideas progressing to the second stage, offering further training on prototyping and pitching. In February, 24 participants will advance to the semi-finals, vying for a spot among the final 12 ideas slated for competition.

The winners will be chosen across four categories: Best App of the Year – Advanced Level, Best Youth-Made App, Most Innovative App, and Social Impact. Esteemed judges from banking, venture capital, government, and the private sector will evaluate the submissions.

Winners will receive a substantial prize package valued at US$ 150,000, inclusive of services provided in collaboration with an international app development software company. Moreover, they will benefit from comprehensive support from the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy to kickstart their ventures, covering licensing, banking procedures, and networking opportunities.
