With the Lok Sabha elections approaching, the BJP has made its first move targeting the Thrissur constituency, the place the party eyes a breakthrough. Prime Minister Narendra Modi itself will kick- off BJP’s election campaign on January 2.
He will address a mass gathering of two lakh women from various walks of life. The meeting will be held at the Thekkinkadu ground which lies in the middle of the Thrissur city and is titled ‘Sthree Shakthi Samgamam’.
It is organised by the Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The party expects a footfall of over two lakh women in the event. The apparent strategy is to woo women voters and get their support cutting across party lines.
According to Kerala BJP chief K Surendran, prominent women from various walks of life will attend the event. “Women from diverse backgrounds, including Anganwadi teachers, ASHA workers, entrepreneurs, MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) workers, neighbourhood network workers and social and cultural activists will participate in the event,” Surendran said, talking to the media.
Surendran said the event will also serve as a platform for women to laud the Prime Minister for the historic women’s reservation Bill.
The BJP had earlier announced that PM Modi would visit Kerala and address a program of the BJP-NDA in January.
Besides PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, party national president JP Nadda and other senior leaders would also take part in various campaign programmes of the NDA in the state in the coming months ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the party had said.
The front leaders and workers would carry out foot marches in all Lok Sabha constituencies across the state in January. The NDA has also decided to visit all Christian houses in the state with the Christmas message of PM Modi.
From January last and throughout the month of February, massive campaign marches would be carried out across Kerala under the aegis of NDA.
