From flag-hoisting ceremonies at the diplomatic missions to flash mobs in malls, Indian expats in the UAE attended day-long events across different emirates to mark the 78th Independence Day.
Wearing Tricolour attires and waving Indian flags, the young and the old sang the national anthem and took part in the celebrations which included various cultural performances. Despite it being a working day, hundreds of Indian expats in the UAE attended the official flag-hoisting ceremonies at their diplomatic missions on August 15.
Ambassador Sunjay Sudhir hoisted the Tiranga at the embassy in Abu Dhabi which was attended by vibrant Indian diaspora. He also honoured the volunteers who worked tirelessly for the community welfare and asked them to join the ‘EkPedMaaKeNaam’ campaign.
Satish Kumar, Consul General of India in Dubai, hosted the Tricolour after paying floral tribute to Father of the Nation. The Indian diaspora joined to sing the national anthem. The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi also conducted an Indian art workshop in the run up to the Independence Day, the embassy said Yatin Patel, Deputy Consul General of India in Dubai, joined more than 130 donors in the ‘Mega Blood Donation Campaign’ organised by the Indian Consulate. Meanwhile, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a congratulatory message to President Droupadi Murmu of the Republic of India on the occasion of her country’s Independence Day, according to WAM.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice- President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice- President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, also sent similar messages to the Indian President and to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion.
