Indians in UAE

Dubai : Even amid geopolitical tensions and evolving global risks, the deep-rooted affinity of Indians toward Dubai and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) remains remarkably resilient. Recent diplomatic developments, including the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, have contributed positively to global stability, underscoring the growing maturity of international diplomacy. In an increasingly interconnected economic landscape, nations are prioritising cooperation, trade, and peace over prolonged conflict.

The international agreements and institutional frameworks continues to anchor global trade, security and trust boosting UAE’s image as global business hub. The mechanisms form the backbone of a stable world order – one where economic interdependence discourages conflict and encourages collaboration .

India, guided by its civilisational ethos of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”—the world is one family—has consistently upheld its humanitarian responsibilities. From providing essential medicines during the COVID-19 pandemic to extending aid during crises, India’s actions reflect a deep commitment to global solidarity. Under the leadership of Narendra Modi, this philosophy has been actively projected on the world stage, particularly through strengthened ties with the Middle East.

A Strategic and Emotional Partnership

The relationship between India and the United Arab Emirates has evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership—spanning trade, energy, technology, and cultural exchange. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two nations has significantly boosted bilateral trade, which has crossed $85 billion, with ambitions to scale further in the coming years. The UAE remains one of India’s largest trading partners and a key gateway for Indian businesses to global markets.

Beyond economics, this relationship is deeply human. With over 3.5 million Indians living in the UAE, it is home to one of the largest Indian diasporas in the world—contributing meaningfully to the country’s economy while preserving strong cultural roots.

Life in the UAE: Stability Amid Global Flux

As global headlines often focus on conflict and uncertainty, everyday life in the UAE tells a very different story—one of stability, safety, and opportunity.

From world-class infrastructure to seamless public services, the UAE has built an ecosystem that enables residents to thrive. The Dubai Metro stands as a symbol of efficiency and modern urban planning, while airports like Dubai International continue to rank among the busiest and most advanced globally. Healthcare, utilities, and governance systems operate with remarkable precision—allowing residents to focus on growth, family, and quality of life.

What truly distinguishes the UAE, however, is its social harmony. People from over 200 nationalities live and work together in a spirit of mutual respect and inclusivity. Schools, workplaces, and communities reflect a unique blend of cultures, languages, and traditions—creating a truly global society grounded in shared values.

Leadership that Inspires a Nation

The UAE’s transformation into a global hub of innovation and stability is deeply rooted in visionary leadership. The legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan laid the foundation for a nation built on unity, generosity, and foresight.

Today, under the stewardship of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the country continues to set global benchmarks in governance, infrastructure, and quality of life. Initiatives in renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and smart cities highlight the UAE’s forward-looking vision.

Equally notable is the country’s commitment to tolerance and coexistence, exemplified through policies that promote religious freedom, gender inclusion, and cultural integration.

A Global Hub for Opportunity and Enterprise

The UAE’s pro-business environment has made it a magnet for entrepreneurs and investors worldwide. With streamlined regulatory systems, digital governance, and access to international markets, setting up and scaling a business has become significantly more accessible.

Free zones, tax incentives, and investor-friendly policies have enabled professionals from diverse backgrounds to build successful enterprises. The UAE’s role as a global logistics and financial hub further enhances its appeal as a destination for growth and innovation.

A Personal Journey of Belonging

For me, the UAE is not just a place of residence—it is home in the truest sense. My parents, Mr. Rajiv Meherish and Mrs. Smeeta Meherish, arrived here in 1980, laying the foundation for a life built on opportunity and resilience.

Having spent over four decades in this country, I have witnessed firsthand its evolution—from a rapidly developing nation to a global powerhouse. I grew up here, received my education here, and today run my own business in an environment that rewards ambition and hard work.

It is also where I met my wife, Anishka, and where my family continues to build its future. Every day, I see people striving, achieving, and supporting one another—reinforcing the sense of belonging that defines life in the UAE.

A Bridge Between Worlds

The UAE stands today as a powerful bridge between East and West—a nation where tradition and modernity coexist seamlessly. From serene desert landscapes and historic mosques to futuristic skylines and cutting-edge innovation, it offers a uniquely balanced way of life.

In a world often divided by uncertainty, the UAE represents possibility, unity, and progress.

Whenever I am asked where I am from, my answer remains the same: “I am originally Indian—but from Dubai, UAE.”

It is a statement filled with pride, gratitude, and deep emotional connection.

Despite global uncertainties, the emotional, cultural, and economic bond between Indians and the UAE remains stronger than ever. For millions, the UAE is not just a destination—it is a home, a dream, and a testament to what inclusive growth and visionary leadership can achieve.

For my family and me, the UAE is not just where we live—it is where we truly belong.
