DUBAI: UAE has introduced a new decree to regulate and promote use of new and advance technology in advancement of its digital transformation.

The Ministry of Economy convened a media briefing on December 6 to unveil the Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2023 on Commerce through Modern Means of Technology (e-commerce), aligning with the nation’s strategic push towards digital transformation.

The law’s primary objective is to catalyse the growth of trade conducted through advanced technologies and foster the development of smart infrastructure within the country. It seeks to enhance the UAE’s attractiveness for investments and bolster its position as a global business and trade hub.

The Ministry of Economy, Undersecretary, Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, underscored the UAE’s shift towards a new economic model, grounded in resilience, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Al Saleh highlighted the nation’s competitive and adaptable economic legislative environment, positioning it favourably on regional and global scales and making it an appealing business destination for entrepreneurs and investors worldwide.

During the briefing, Al Saleh said, “Today, we are witnessing a new milestone in the country’s efforts to achieve sustainable economic and social development through the promulgation of the new law for e-commerce.”

He stressed that the law is part of a comprehensive legislative update undertaken by UAE Government to accelerate the transition to a new economic model and heighten competitiveness in the country’s business and trade landscape.

Al Saleh added, “The new law is an integrated framework for the development of the legislative and regulatory environment for trade conducted via modern technical means in the country, in line with global best practices in this regard.”

He highlighted collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Economy with federal and local stakeholders, private sector partners, and experts to develop the law’s articles in a forwardlooking, adaptable manner.
