PRESIDENT Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a phone call with Jake Sullivan, the United States National Security Advisor, on October 2 during which they discussed the strategic relationship between the UAE and the US and ways to strengthen it across various sectors, particularly in development, WAM reported.
They reaffirmed their mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation in artificial intelligence in light of the outcomes of His Highness’ recent historic visit to the United States and welcomed the designation of the UAE as a “Major Defence Partner” of the US.
According to a White House readout, “On October 2, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke with His Highness President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates. They discussed follow-up from President Sheikh Mohamed’s historic visit to Washington and welcomed the UAE’s designation as a Major Pefence partner of the United States.
Sullivan and President Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the shared commitment to advance cooperation in artificial intelligence and related technologies based on the important understandings concluded during President Sheikh Mohamed’s visit. They also consulted on regional matters”.
During the phone call, both parties also addressed several regional and international issues of common interest, with special focus on the latest developments in the Middle East, particularly the situations in Gaza and Lebanon.
They underscored the importance of pursuing political solutions to the region’s crises and preventing the further escalation of conflicts. They also highlighted the importance of continuing urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza, Lebanon, and Sudan.
“Sullivan welcomed the UAE’s extraordinary commitment to supporting the humanitarian response in Gaza. They further discussed the situation in Lebanon and the importance of a diplomatic settlement that enables civilians on both sides of the border to return to their homes in safety.
On Sudan, Sullivan expressed concern about the continued escalation of fighting that is destroying civilian lives and infrastructure and impeding humanitarian efforts. Sullivan also expressed concern about violence affecting diplomatic facilities throughout the conflict, including the UAE Ambassador’s residence in Khartoum this week. They agreed to be in close touch over the coming days and weeks,” the readout added.
