The 80th meeting of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) discussed strategies aimed at propelling the transition towards clean and renewable energy sources. Chaired by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Chairman DSCE, the meeting on February 7 was attended by key dignitaries, including Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice- Chairman, DSCE.

The focus of the meeting was fuel distribution sector and green mobility initiatives, with an aim to align the retail fuel distribution sector with international standards. Acknowledging the substantial uptick in demand witnessed over recent years, the Council unveiled initiatives tailored to fortify distribution operations at fuel stations. The proposals included the introduction of mobile fuel distribution vehicles to cater to the evolving needs of consumers.

The involvement of both government and private entities is sought to effectively implement the outlined roadmap to a green economy

With eyes on the Dubai Green Mobility Initiative 2030, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) introduced a programme to issue accreditation certificates to entities and companies that manage green vehicle fleets, including electric and hybrid cars. This will help support Dubai’s objective to increase the number of environmentally friendly cars in the local markets.

The Council aims to ensure that the transition towards the judicious use of all energy types is underpinned by integrated systems and strategies. The involvement of both government and private entities is sought to effectively implement the outlined roadmap to a green economy.

The Council also reviewed the regulatory framework to address the growing demand for vehicle fuel by augmenting the number of fuelling stations across Dubai. Initiatives were endorsed to strike a harmonious balance between supply and demand for vehicle fuel over the next five years.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum honoured members of the Board of Directors of the Regulatory & Supervisory Bureau (RSB) for Electricity and Water in Dubai, acknowledging their invaluable contributions.
