In a significant stride towards sustainable industrial development, the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) of the UAE and the State of BadenWürttemberg, Germany, signed a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI).

UAE’s Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Sultan Al Jaber along with State of Baden-Württemberg’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour, and Tourism, Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, and Minister of the Environment, Climate Protection and Energy Thekla Walker were present during the signing ceremony of this landmark agreement which took place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany Al Jaber emphasised the UAE’s ambition to reduce emissions by 93% by 2050 through innovative solutions like CCUS and clean energy adoption across industries. He also underscored UAE’s commitment with initiatives spearheaded at COP28, like the Industrial Decarbonisation Roadmap.

Expanding on this collaborative ethos, Hoffmeister-Kraut emphasised Germany’s southwest state’s strategic vision to establish an efficient hydrogen economy. Noting the establishment of a business representation office in the UAE in 2022, HoffmeisterKraut emphasised the region’s allure for Baden-Württemberg’s companies, particularly in the realm of green hydrogen production.

Echoing these sentiments, Thekla Walker emphasised hydrogen’s pivotal role in fostering a climate-neutral industrial landscape. With the UAE’s solar energy advantage and BadenWürttemberg’s industrial prowess, Walker envisioned a collaborative effort to create a common market for green hydrogen production.

The partnership extends beyond governmental entities, encompassing private and public sectors, with a focus on bolstering bilateral relations and green industrial investments under the Make it in the Emirates initiative. Exploring realms of AI, smart manufacturing, smart health, and aerospace, the collaboration aligns with UAE’s national industrial strategy, Net Zero by 2050 initiative, and the Paris Agreement goals.

Moreover, the JDI prioritises capacity building and skill enhancement, facilitating joint research endeavours and internship opportunities within priority projects, thereby nurturing talent and fostering innovation in alignment with shared sustainability objectives.
