THE close and friendly relations between India and the United Arab Emirates were highlighted by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance of the UAE. He was speaking on the occasion of Vasu Shroff Global Awards ceremony in Dubai.

He lauded the significant contributions by Indians in the development and economic progress of the middle east country. “Indian professionals and business people have come to the United Arab Emirates, bringing their expertise and acumen and contributing immensely to our national development efforts,” he remarked.

With the theme “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” the award ceremony honoured distinguished luminaries from India and showcased the strong bond between India and the UAE, underlined by shared values of pluralism and multiculturalism.

Sheikh Nahyan attributed UAE’s policy of openness and inclusion for making the middle east country a global hub attracting multinational talent and investments. He praised the country’s leadership’s vision for transforming the UAE into “a destination for smart, persistent, and innovative people with grand ideas.”

“We recognise the significant contributions made by individuals from India to our nation, and we anticipate India’s acknowledgment of the vast economic and cultural opportunities that numerous Indians have experienced here in the UAE,” said Sheikh Nahyan.

The minister’s comments emphasised the enduring relationship between India and the UAE, which has transformed into a comprehensive strategic alliance across various sectors, including trade, investment, energy, education, and security. With an Indian diaspora exceeding 3.5 million, India holds the position of the UAE’s second-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching USD 85 billion in the fiscal year 2022-23.

Moreover, investments by Indian companies and individuals in the UAE are projected to exceed USD 85 billion, further solidifying the economic ties between the two nations. The award ceremony is named after Vasu Shroff, an Indian businessman and the chairman of the Regal Group, who was recognised among Forbes Middle East’s Top 100 Indian Leaders.
