NEW DELHI: Over 900 inmates from correctional and rehabilitation centres were released by United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ahead of Eid Al Adha. The President also directed authorities to settle all financial obligations and court-imposed fines related to their sentences.
The humanitarian gesture aims to promote social stability, strengthen family bonds and provide eligible prisoners an opportunity to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society. Similar clemency measures were announced across several Emirates. Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum ordered the release of 836 prisoners of various nationalities.
In Ras Al Khaimah, 443 inmates were pardoned, while Ajman announced the release of 230 prisoners and Sharjah 227 inmates. In Fujairah, 104 prisoners demonstrating good conduct were granted pardon. Authorities in Umm Al Quwain also approved the release of a number of inmates
