NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern over the attacks in Qatar’s capital Doha and spoke to Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad AlThani over the phone on this issue on September 10.

PM Modi said that India condemns the violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and supports resolution of issues through dialogue and diplomacy. He said that India stands against all forms of terrorism and wants peace and stability in the region.

PM Modi wrote on the social media platform ‘X’ that India stands with Qatar to maintain peace and stability in the region and strongly condemns all forms of terrorism.

The Prime Minister appreciated Qatar’s role in promoting regional peace and stability, including its mediation efforts in Gaza aimed at securing a ceasefire and the release of hostages. Sheikh Tamim thanked PM Modi for his expression of solidarity with the people and the State of Qatar. Both leaders expressed satisfaction at the sustained progress in the India-Qatar Strategic Partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

The Israeli army (IDF) claimed that it carried out an airstrike targeting Hamas leaders in Doha. According to Israeli security agency Shin Bet, the top leadership of Hamas was targeted in the attack. According to Israeli media Channel 12, this operation has been named ‘Atzeret Hadinat’, which means ‘Doomsday’. The army said that precision weapons and intelligence were used in the attack to cause minimal damage to civilians.

The Israeli military also said that the Hamas leaders who were targeted were directly responsible for the genocide on October 7, 2023 and waging war against Israel. At the same time, Qatar strongly objected to the attack and called it a violation of international law.

According to The Times of Israel, there have been reports of major explosions in Doha, where the top leadership of Hamas lives.
