Focus at highest level changes in infra services across Northeast

<p>Similarly, the Indian Railways is spending Rs 74,485 crore to improve the railway network in the region and will connect every state capital in NE to the national railway grid. In Assam, the construction of Bogibeel Bridge, India’s longest rail-road bridge, highlights the focus and determination of the Government to improve connectivity in the Northeast.</p>
<p>The focus of the Government at the highest level has dramatically changed the infrastructure services across the Northeast. Better infrastructure is helping promote entrepreneurship among the youths and generate employment opportunities locally.</p>
<p>The region, which suffered a substantial ‘brain drain’ due to the lack of facilities, is finally able to convince its youths to stay back and contribute to the economy. Political initiative to establish peace in the region led to the signing of the historic ‘Naga Peace Accord’ with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) in 2015 after 80 rounds of talks.</p>
<p>Recently, another ceasefire pact was signed with the Niki Sumi-led Khaplang faction of the NSCN (K) and the Government is working towards a final peace deal with all the Naga Nationalist Political Groups (NNPGs).</p>
<p>The 2020 ‘Bodo Peace Accord’ with factions of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), and other stakeholders have brought peace to the lower Assam region. The long-pending issues of the Bru-Reang people, who were living as Internally Displaced People (IDPs), have been resolved in both Tripura and Mizoram due to the sustained efforts of the Modi Government.</p>

<p>The recent “Karbi-Anglong Peace Accord” ended a three-decade-old political issue in these districts of Assam. The Assam-Meghalaya accord last month paved the way for a similar resolution of the boundary disputes among the other states of the Northeast region.</p>
<p>As other contentious issues are resolved and the development process accelerates, a bright future awaits the people of the Northeast.</p>
<p>Though Nature has been generous in providing a rich natural resource reserve with rivers, forests, coal, minerals, etc., the Northeast still has a long way to go in terms of economic growth. Being landlocked impeded its economic potential. The expansion of rail and road connectivity has changed the scenario to a great extent.</p>
<p>The Modi Government has shown a strong commitment to the rapid infrastructure and economic development of this region in the last six seven years coupled with the development of international trade routes with ASEAN countries and neighboring Bangladesh through North-Eastern Region.</p>
<p>The opening of the international trade routes, which were closed for the North-Eastern region since Independence, will open the gates for the economic development of the entire region along with creating enormous opportunities for employment.</p>
