NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar virtually represented India at the Champions Meeting of the Global Crisis Response Group (GCRG) on July 21.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres chaired the meeting, which brought together leaders from around the world to address interconnected crises in food security, energy, and finance, seeking coordinated global solutions.
During the meeting, the EAM underscored India’s efforts while holding the G20 presidency. He spoke about the adoption of the G20 Action Plan for Accelerating SDGs – a testament to India’s commitment to advancing sustainable development goals.
India stands devoted to implementing a Common Framework for the Debt Service Suspension Initiative, ensuring predictability, timeliness, and orderly coordination in this endeavour, he said.
On July 7, India joined GCRG, accepting an invitation from UNSG António Guterres to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
GCRG was set up by the UNSG in March 2022 to address urgent and critical global issues pertaining to interlinked crises in food security, energy, and finance and to coordinate a global response.
The Champions Group, a distinguished body consisting of Heads of State and Government from Bangladesh, Barbados, Denmark, Germany, Indonesia, and Senegal, provided oversight and direction to the efforts of GCRG.
