BHOPAL: All roads this month lead to Indore, the largest and the most populous city in Madhya Pradesh. After Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, the city was scheduled to host a global investor summit ‘Invest Madhya Pradesh’. The focus sectors of the investor summit include food processing, textile & garments, pharmaceutical & healthcare, automobile, logistics & warehousing, IT, tourism and aerospace & defence.
Apart from its legendary tourism promotion campaigns, Madhya Pradesh has been known for its textiles such as Maheshwari saris, Chanderi silk, Bagh printing, batik printing of Ujjain and zardosi work of Bhopal. In the past decade or so, the state has also emerged as an education hub with Indore and Bhopal as the hotspots of action. There are as many as 81 Centrally-funded institutes in the state and 42 Central universities
Over 95 industrial parks
Madhya Pradesh has developed more than 95 industrial parks with state-ofthe-art infrastructure ready with online GIS based land allotment. Service approvals from 12 departments are given within 30 days through a single window system.
Ease-of-doing business has led to the state emerging as a leader in content creation and gaming also. A number of companies have been set up for animation, visual effects and virtual production. In 2022, the state also saw the setting up of its first association of AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics and Extended Reality). AVGC and Extended Reality is a rapidly growing industrial sector which is in demand worldwide. This sector has grown at a CAGR of 29 per cent in 2021.
Excellent connectivity
Being centrally located, Madhya Pradesh captures 50 per cent of India’s population. The state has five operational airports and has over 550 trains passing through it daily ensuring excellent connectivity. Western Madhya Pradesh falls under the influence area of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). The Delhi Mumbai Expressway passes through Ratlam opening opportunities for logistics investments in the area. To boost the export competitiveness of the state, the Government is also developing a greenfield airport and mega investment region near Indore.
Indore, Pithampur, Dewas, Ujjain, Malanpur and Mandideep are key drug and pharmaceuticals clusters for Madhya Pradesh. Over 350 pharma units which house more than 100 formulation manufacturers are currently operational in the state.
The state has set up a Medical Park and offers special incentives package for the sector. More than 250 units involved in the production of small parts of medical devices have significant presence across the state All this has led to Madhya Pradesh becoming one of the fastest growing states with annual gross state domestic production growth of over 8 per cent CAGR over the past decade.
