MUMBAI: Two runways of Mumbai International Airport will be closed for six hours on May 9 for annual pre-monsoon maintenance works.
The closure at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) is scheduled from 1100 to 1700 hours as part of the airport’s monsoon contingency plan to ensure the safety of the runways.
The primary runway 09/27 and the secondary runway 14/32 will be nonoperational during this period, as stated by the airport operator Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL). The maintenance involves a thorough inspection and repair of the runway to address any wear and tear from regular operations.
A Notice to Airmen (Notam) was issued in December, allowing airlines and other stakeholders ample time to reschedule flights. MIAL also assured that the planned maintenance will not affect flight movements or inconvenience passengers. CSMIA’s infrastructure spans nearly 1,033 acres including a network of runaways, taxiways and aprons.
