₹23,731 CRORE PUSH FOR INDIA’S BIOENERGY ECONOMY
Cabinet clears GOBARdhan National Circular Bioenergy Scheme
NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet has approved GOBARdhan — the National Circular Bioenergy Scheme with an outlay of ₹23,731 crore, marking a major push towards clean energy, waste-to-wealth and rural economic growth.
The scheme seeks to transform agricultural residue, cattle dung, press mud, municipal organic waste and other biomass into Compressed Biogas (CBG) and organic manure.
It creates an integrated national framework for the CBG sector through assured offtake, stable pricing, capital assistance, pipeline connectivity and improved access to finance.
The programme, covering FY 2026-27 to FY 2035-36, aims to achieve nearly a ten-fold increase in domestic CBG production.
WHY IT MATTERS
ENERGY SECURITY • FARM INCOME • CLEAN FUEL • WASTE-TO-WEALTH
The initiative can reduce dependence on imported natural gas while creating new income opportunities for farmers and rural entrepreneurs and attracting private investment into India’s circular bioeconomy.
